The Tea Party

                by Pamelah Walker

What to bring to a Tea Party:
A jewelry box because it is full of priceless treasures,
A gramophone a piece of china good manners
An apple the truth a journal.
One may fly or one may sail
But she departed from a butterfly.
Biscuits tea cream sandwiches scones
Coffee water milk crackers squash.
They passed out the cream with the china pot
Like a cat waiting on her perch for fresh tuna.

Did you take three dollops of cream for that scone?
Repetition stops when the company is somewhat tired.
Manners reign and friendliness smiles.
However, this is not a typical tea –
This is uniquely royal and flown in from
The Indies just for the occasion.
You are the guest of honor.

Truth has long been a subject for words…
Is this what you really desire?
Never-the-less, the conversation drifts back
To sandwiches tea and scones
At the expense of reality and submission.
Big hummingbirds large diamonds baseball gloves
Toast taco sauce sugar cubes.
Sitting sipping, her heart longs for reality
That is simply one stirring away.
